Stolen iPhone? your data will be erased!

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Today I was reading the bug fixes and improvements of the new 2.1 iPhone update, and I’ve discovered a new interesting functionality.

If somebody stolen your iPhone and you have it locked by a code, all your data will be wiped if the thief fails ten (10) times to unlock it.

Apple released new iPhone/iPod Touch 2.0.1 firmware… with problems?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I’ve just upgraded my iPhone 3G to the new 2.0.1 firmware…

Everything seemed to be correct, here is a list of things I notice (bugfixes, etc…)

Keyboard is faster in some applications where it was very slow
Contacts list loads faster too
Screen tone looks more white, like the first iPhone
Open/close applications seems to be faster
Faster Backup/Sync process with iTunes

But… wait, one error! OMFG!

When the firmware update completes, iPhone asks you to download a new carrier settings file, and then, it crashes with error 0xE8000001 and operation can not be done.

Well, even that, everything seems to be working (3G connection, WiFi, calls, text messages) but I cannot upgrade the carrier settings, and as I see lots of people are having the same problem, c’mon Steve, fix it! :)

iPhone VS iPhone 3G

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Some days ago… on July 11, I bought a iPhone 3G in the new telefonica’s flagship in Gran Via, Madrid (read the full story here), I went with one of my best friends, Ivan, who was lucky to get two!

I also have the first iPhone since October 2007, and now with the new version I want to compare the two editions in some really important aspects, like the screen quality and photo camera, something I haven’t fount too much information on the net.

First of all, the package :) two cases are quite similar, something that could be expected (the new one is a little bit higher) but the only thing I don’t understand is why the hell Apple has put the number 9 at the calendar icon again, and why not 11… anyway

Next, the phone itself. I remember when Steve Jobs was showing the iPhone 3G in the past KeyNote, many people thought that would be a poor quality material (arg, a plastic iPhone! wtf!), but you cannot realize how beautiful is until you have it in your own hands… and it is, absolutely beautiful and robust, it is NOT simple and poor quality plastic, in fact, it seems thats a ceramic material called Zirconium/Yttrium, and it feels very very confortable in your hand.

Now it’s turn for the camera quality… has the new iPhone 3G the same 2mpix camera? yes, but for the tests I made, it seems the quality become much better now.

The iPhone screen: Many people said that the new screen has a green/yellow tonality, it is normal folks! that’s absolutely not a hardware issue, Apple did it intentionally and the new screen has been rebalanced to display a warmer tonality to create richer tones and better contrast. The previous iPhone had a blue-color screen that caused images from camera to display improperly.

Another thing is… look at the brightness settings in the images below, while in the previous iPhone the brightness level is set at 50%, in the new 3G version we have a better quality image with less brightness! (photo was taken in a dark room)

In my opinion, the Springboard looks better too:…
